Kolkata, 30 December (IANS). Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday accused the West Bengal government of not giving enough land to the BSF to install barbed fencing. Shah said that he sent seven letters to CM Mamata Banerjee to provide land to BSF to stop infiltration along the international border with Bangladesh, but she ignored all of them.

While addressing a press conference in Kolkata on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, “I have sent seven letters to the Chief Minister on the issue of giving land to BSF. Three secretary-level meetings have been held in West Bengal on this particular issue. Even after this, why is the West Bengal government reluctant in giving land for barbed fencing?”

He said that now BSF is being accused of failing to stop illegal infiltration. My question is, how will BSF be able to provide effective border security without proper barbed fencing?

The Union Home Minister said, “I want to assure that the BJP will not under any circumstances make any compromise with a political party which promotes illegal infiltration and nurtures infiltrators to save its permanent vote bank. Infiltration is a very serious issue because due to this menace, the demography of the state is changing. Unless infiltration is stopped, the problems of the people of West Bengal will increase manifold in the coming days.”

He also accused the West Bengal government of weakening the rules of the Cadre Controlling Authority, Department of Personnel and Training of Central Service Officers, while appointing senior bureaucrats and police officers like Chief Secretary and Director General of Police.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured the Matua community that the voting rights of persons who have applied for citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act will be protected.

He said, “People of Matua community have no need to worry. Every refugee who comes to India will be considered a citizen. This is the promise of BJP. No one can harm them. Not even Mamata Banerjee.”

He said the protection of refugees would continue along with the campaign against infiltrators.
