Severe cold and dense fog in North India have put brakes on the speed of air traffic. Amidst the warning of dense fog, major airlines like IndiGo, Air India and SpiceJet have issued important travel advisories for their passengers. In view of the worsening weather in the capital Delhi, a ‘yellow alert’ of fog has been issued for the next two days. Due to low visibility at the airport, there are huge problems in operating flights, due to which passengers have to wait for hours.

Flights may be affected on Tuesday also due to bad weather, airlines advise passengers to check flight status before leaving home

Airline companies have clarified in their travel advisory that considering the current weather conditions, flights may remain affected in many cities of the country including Delhi on Tuesday. In such a situation, passengers have been advised to compulsorily check the status of their flight before leaving for the airport. This step is necessary so that in case of flight cancellation or delay, passengers do not have to face trouble at the airport and regret later. Airlines say that their teams are making continuous efforts to maintain smooth operations at major airports in North India due to fog, but delays are natural in view of the safety standards.

Not only Delhi but also the movement of aircraft in these major cities of North India including Ayodhya, Patna and Varanasi may be adversely affected.

Companies like Air India and SpiceJet said in their advisory issued on social media that the havoc of fog is not limited to Delhi only. Apart from Delhi, in the coming days, flight movement in cities like Amritsar, Jammu, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Patna, Darbhanga, Guwahati and Bagdogra may also be severely affected. Air India cautioned passengers that landing and take-off of flights has become a big challenge for pilots due to low visibility. Therefore, passengers are appealed to leave home only after checking the status online so that they do not have to wait for hours at the airport or return empty handed in case of flight cancellation.

Due to low visibility, Indigo had to cancel around 80 flights, problems increased for passengers traveling from Delhi airport.

The biggest impact of this fog has been seen on the country’s largest airline IndiGo. Due to bad weather the company had to cancel about 80 flights on its network. According to the data, half of these flights were related to Delhi airport alone, while the rest were related to big cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata. Indigo has said in its appeal that due to fog, flight operations have slowed down and the teams deployed at the airports are trying to provide all possible help to the distressed passengers. Efforts are going on to streamline the flights in collaboration with the authorities, but the cooperation of the passengers is also very important.

Meteorological Department issued orange alert of dense fog, there was chaos at Delhi Airport due to cancellation of more than 100 flights.

Widespread impact of fog was seen at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, where at least 128 flights were canceled throughout the day and 8 flights had to be diverted to Jaipur and other airports. In the latest advisory issued for passengers, Delhi Airport Authority has warned of cancellation of flights due to dense fog conditions. At the same time, the Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ of very dense fog in Delhi as well as in some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, which indicates that the problems of air travelers are not going to reduce yet.
