The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Haridwar Police formed to investigate the Ankita Bhandari case is currently searching for former BJP MLA Suresh Rathore and actress Urmila Sanawar in Jwalapur, Haridwar. Both are missing after an audio clip controversy surfaced recently, which is being linked to the Ankita Bhandari murder case.
In this case, Shiromani Guru Ravidas Vishwa Mahapeeth President Dharmendra Kumar has filed a case against Urmila Sanawar and Suresh Rathore at Bahadrabad Police Station, accusing them of tarnishing the image of the BJP leader. Haridwar Police has formed a Special Investigation Committee (SIT) to investigate the matter. A non-bailable warrant (NBW) has been issued against Urmila Sanawar for not appearing before the police.
Senior sources in Haridwar Police told ANI over phone that along with the SIT, several police teams have been sent to different states to trace former BJP MLAs Suresh Rathore and Urmila Sanawar.
Earlier in the day, Uttarakhand BJP president Mahendra Bhatt on Sunday termed the protests by the Congress and the opposition as politically motivated and said they have nothing to do with justice for Ankita Bhandari, but are aimed at saving their own political existence. “The Congress is using a sensitive issue like the Ankita murder case as a political weapon,” Bhatt said. The flags of political parties being waved during the protests reflect the opposition’s intentions and “Clearly reflect the intentions of individuals who harbor new political ambitions ahead of 2027.”
He further said that the Dhami government pursued the case vigorously and ensured that the accused were punished, and if the opposition felt that there were any omissions, it was free to present its facts before the court.
He described the chaos and disorder created during the protests in Dehradun and other places as an attempt to spoil the atmosphere. State President Bhatt said that Congress is trying to tarnish the image of the BJP government and organization as part of a well-planned strategy.
