Thiruvananthapuram. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has geared up for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections. In this sequence, on Sunday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will formally launch the BJP’s campaign in Kerala. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday night by a special flight. On Sunday, he will participate in several political, organizational and religious programs in the state capital. As per the official programme, Amit Shah will start his programs with a visit to the historic Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple. After visiting the temple, the Home Minister will interact with newly elected BJP representatives from local self-governance institutions. The purpose of this conversation is to strengthen the organizational base of the party at the grassroots level before the upcoming elections.
Home Minister Shah will address the conference of elected representatives of BJP at Kovadiyar. The meeting will focus on election preparations, booth-level coordination and constituency-specific strategies. In the afternoon he will attend the party’s state core committee meeting, where key political and electoral issues are likely to be discussed in detail.
Rajeev Chandrashekhar, V. Muraleedharan, K. Senior BJP leaders including Surendran and Shobha Surendran will participate in these meetings. Party sources said the discussions will focus on selection of candidates for ‘A Plus’ and ‘A category’ constituencies, which the BJP considers important to increase its electoral hold in Kerala.
Seat-sharing among NDA allies is also expected to be discussed during Amit Shah’s meeting with alliance leaders in the evening.
“Honoured to join our workers to welcome Amit Shah in Thiruvananthapuram. 6 months ago, in July 2025, Amit Shah launched BJP-NDA’s ‘Mission 2025’ and Kerala witnessed a political turn in the local body elections,” BJP state president Rajiv Chandrashekhar wrote in an ‘X’ post on Sunday.
He further wrote, “On Sunday, Home Minister Amit Shah is here to launch ‘Mission 2026’ and guide our workers. We are preparing for the most important assembly elections in Kerala. This election will decide the future of our state and the opportunities that lie ahead for generations of Malayalis.”
In view of Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit, Thiruvananthapuram city police have imposed extensive traffic restrictions in major areas of the capital from 7 am to 6 pm. Parking will be restricted on many important roads and vehicles violating the rules will be towed. The administration has advised passengers traveling to airports and railway stations to plan in advance to avoid inconvenience.
