Nationalist Congress Party leader Nawab Malik on Monday highlighted the importance of the party in the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, claiming that the party will decide majority in an otherwise “hung” House. Speaking to ANI, Nawab Malik said, “I have been saying from the beginning that there will be a hung House in BMC and no one will be able to become mayor without the help of NCP. So if anyone thinks that the result can change, then he There is a misunderstanding.”
When asked about contesting the BMC elections alone and not with Sharad Pawar’s faction like in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Nawab Malik said, “It was the wish of the party workers to contest the elections alone. Whenever the merger of the two NCPs will happen, Pawar Saheb (Sharad Pawar) and Ajit Dada (Ajit Pawar) will take a decision on it. I will not comment on the timing of the merger, but it is certain that the workers of both the factions are interested and hopeful.” Both NCPs should come together.”
Over BJP’s recent alliance with Congress and AIMIM in Ambernath and Akola respectively to claim stake in both the city councils, Nawab Malik criticized the largest party in the ruling Mahayuti alliance, which also includes NCP.
“What BJP did in Akot (Akola) by going with AIMIM confirms that BJP is using AIMIM as its B team,” he said. Similarly, in Ambernath too, BJP took Congress councilors with itself, but we chose to support NCP. The BJP, which claims a Congress-free India, is taking support from the same Congress councillors.
This has come to light at a time when the political atmosphere is heating up regarding the upcoming elections in Maharashtra. In these elections, elections are going to be held in 29 municipal corporations across the state including Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Voting will be held on January 15 and counting of votes is scheduled for January 16.
