Guwahati . The case related to the death of famous Assam singer Zubeen Garg is once again in the news. An important legal turning point in this high-profile case is likely to take place on Thursday. Today the District and Sessions Court of Kamrup district of Assam will hear the bail petitions of five accused. This hearing is taking place at a time when the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has filed its charge sheet and many new facts related to the case have come to light. According to officials, all the five people accused in this case have approached the court demanding bail. Among these, the names of Shyamkanu Mahanta and Amritprabha Mahanta are prominent. The accused argue that they are continuously cooperating with the investigating agencies and now the investigation is almost complete. In such a situation, there is no concrete reason left to keep him in judicial custody.
The SIT charge sheet in this case has made many important and shocking revelations. In the charge sheet, the late singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma and his bandmate Shekharjyoti Goswami have been accused of murder. Zubeen Garg’s cousin and suspended Assam Police officer Sandipan Garg has been accused of culpable homicide. These allegations have made the whole matter more serious.
The hearing on bail petitions is also considered important because the SIT has completed its investigation and presented a detailed charge sheet in the court. Assam Police had formed a Special Investigation Team for a fair and thorough investigation of this high-profile case. According to Singapore Police, the singer died due to drowning and the role of any third person could not be proved. Zubeen Garg was in an intoxicated state before the incident. He was present on a yacht, where he consumed a large amount of alcohol, due to which his physical condition was unbalanced.
The investigating officer told the court that Zubeen Garg had first gone for a swim in the water and then returned to the yacht. At that time he had said that he was tired. After a few minutes he entered the water again. His medical history was also examined, which revealed that he was suffering from high blood pressure and epilepsy.
In the forensic report, traces of medicines related to these diseases were found in his blood. However, it was not clear whether he had taken epilepsy medicine on the day of the incident or not. Forensic experts said that no visible signs were found on his body which could prove that he had suffered an epileptic attack before entering the water.
The captain of the yacht also testified in the court. He told that Zubeen Garg had to take the help of two friends while boarding the yacht because he was not able to walk properly. The Captain said that Zubeen Garg was stopped from entering the water without a life jacket.
