Basant Panchami 2026: Basant Panchami, being celebrated on 23 January 2026, is not only the auspicious occasion of worship of Mother Saraswati, but this day also marks the formal beginning of Holi celebrations in the Braj region. From today itself, a wave of colorful festivals starts running in Vrindavan and entire Braj, where the magic of spring colors spreads in the darshan of Thakur ji.
According to the young saint of Vrindavan, Yuvraj Shobhit Goswami, Vasant Panchami brings special changes in the service of Thakur ji. Thakur ji, who used to reside in Khichdi bungalow till now in winter, gets adorned in the yellow spring umbrella from today. This Basanti Chhatri continues till Phalgun Dashami (Holi), filling the atmosphere with the freshness of spring and the joy of colors.
These exciting changes come in makeup
During the winter season, Thakur ji has gloves on his hands and socks on his feet, but all these are removed on Vasant Panchami. Now their entire makeup is decorated in yellow-spring colors – yellow clothes, spring jewellery, and a plate of gulal is kept in front. This Gulal is especially offered in the morning Shringaar Aarti and evening Sandhya Aarti. In many temples, like Banke Bihari Ji, Thakur Ji distributes Holi Prasad colors to the devotees by applying gulal on his cheeks and tying a fan, thereby marking the beginning of the 40-day Holi festival in Braj.
Special offering of Vasant Panchami
On this day, special offerings are made to Thakur ji with yellow colored dishes, which symbolize the sweetness of spring. Gram flour halwa, gram flour malpua, kadhi and other spring sweets are made. By offering these offerings, devotees receive special blessings and virtues.

Celebrate Vasant Panchami at home
Devotees for whom it is not possible to reach Vrindavan can celebrate this festival with enthusiasm at home. Dress Shriji or the picture installed in the house in yellow clothes, offer yellow flowers and offer Basanti food. Decorate a small Basanti Kunj, offer gulal and immerse yourself in the devotion of Thakur ji – this is the true happiness of spring!
Vasant Panchami in Braj not only heralds the change of seasons but also celebrates the beginning of Holi festival full of devotion, color and joy. From today Braj has started drowning in colors – Jai Shri Radhe!
