At least 55 families have been rescued from flood affected villages in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, as the Yamuna river was in spate due to water from Hathinikund barrage in Haryana.
Additional District Magistrate (Finance) Saurabh Bhatt told PTI-language that the rescued families are from Badarpur village located on the banks of Yamuna in Loni sub-division and were taken out with the help of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team posted in the area.
Bhatt said, “Food has been arranged for the families rescued for infants. Camps have been set up for the villagers, although many people are reluctant to go there.”
The ADM said that the highest priority of the administration is to protect the Yamuna embankment so that flood water can be prevented from affecting more villages.
Engineers of the irrigation department have been deployed on the embankment to monitor round the clock.
Ambulances, a team of Health Department and necessary medicines have also been deployed in the affected area. The ADM said that the supply of fodder for cattle has been sent to the villages of Badarpur, Mirpur Hindu, Pachaira, Cardamom, Lutfullapur Nawada and Alipur.
