Tata Group and OpenAI have announced a historic partnership on 19 February 2026 in New Delhi. During the India AI Impact Summit, Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman sealed the deal. This partnership focuses on strengthening the Artificial Intelligence infrastructure in India and bringing new technology to Tata companies. On this occasion, both the companies have made many big promises regarding the future of AI in India.

What is this new deal between Tata and OpenAI?
Under this agreement, Tata Group is going to implement ‘ChatGPT Enterprise’ in its companies. This will start with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and will be spread across the group over the next few years. Additionally, TCS and TPG are together investing up to Rs 18,000 crore in the ‘HyperVault’ data center business. OpenAI will become its first big customer (Anchor Tenant). Its purpose is to process the data in India itself so that security and local rules can be followed.
What is special in it for common people and youth?
This partnership is not limited to business only, but it will also impact the common youth. Some of the main points of this project are as follows:
Youth training: OpenAI Foundation and TCS have together promised to teach AI skills to 10 lakh (1 million) youth of India.
Job Opportunities: The data center capacity will start from 100 MW and go up to 1 GW, which will create employment opportunities in the technology sector.
Local Technology: Sam Altman has said that his goal is to build AI with India, for India and in India.
New Software: TCS will now use OpenAI Codex for coding and software engineering, which will increase the speed of work.
