Former Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mukul Roy died on Monday at Apollo Hospital in Salt Lake, Kolkata. His son Subhranshu Roy confirmed that Roy suffered a heart attack at 1.30 am.
On June 11, 2021, Roy and his son Subhranshu Roy joined TMC in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Following his demise, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh paid tribute to Roy, remembering him as a seasoned politician who was highly respected during his tenure in the Bharatiya Janata Party.
He told ANI, “He was an experienced politician. He also became a Union minister. When he came to BJP, he was given a lot of respect. He stayed with us from 2019 to 2021. Later, he left BJP and moved to TMC. For the last two-three years, he was ill and could not actively participate in politics. I pray for the peace of his soul.”
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari also wrote a post about the late TMC leader expressing grief over the news of his demise and sent condolences to his family.

Roy, a former Rajya Sabha MP and Railway Minister, was one of the founding members of the Trinamool Congress.
Later, in 2017, he left TMC and joined BJP and contested the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections from Krishnanagar North constituency, in which he defeated TMC candidate actress Kaushani Mukherjee. However, after the return of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the West Bengal Assembly elections, he rejoined TMC along with his son Shubhranshu Roy.
