New Delhi, February 26 (IANS). Sweet and sour tamarind not only enhances the taste of food, but is also very beneficial for health. Apart from removing digestive problems, it is also effective in controlling the problem of increasing weight.
According to the Environment and Forest Department of the Government of Bihar, tamarind is not just a big and shady tree, but is also a treasure of taste and health. This is a priceless gift of nature, which is easily visible in dense forests, fields and roadsides. Its drooping branches and rough brown bark make it easy to identify. The sweet and sour pulp of tamarind adds taste to food and is a main part of traditional dishes like chutney, sambar.
The medicinal properties of tamarind have been used in traditional medicine for centuries. It is rich in antioxidants, which reduce inflammation in the body and strengthen the immune system. Magnesium, calcium, fiber and vitamin C are found in abundance in it. Tamarind improves digestion, relieves constipation and keeps the stomach clean through laxative effect. It controls cholesterol, reduces bad cholesterol and increases good cholesterol, which keeps the heart healthy.
Polyphenols and flavonoids in tamarind reduce inflammation and protect the liver. It can be helpful in keeping blood sugar level balanced and is helpful in weight control.
Tamarind leaves, bark and seeds also have medicinal properties. It has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, which helps in fighting bacteria and fungus. Regular consumption of tamarind is beneficial for health, but take it in balanced quantity only.
Eating too much tamarind can cause diarrhea or stomach ache. At the same time, diabetic patients must consult a doctor before consuming it. Being acidic can damage the tooth enamel, so rinse with water. Pregnant or lactating women, kidney patients or people taking medicines should use it only after consulting the doctor. Itching or rashes may occur in people with allergies. Always eat in balanced quantity and avoid excessive consumption.
