Assembly correspondent. Jaipur Rajasthan government has taken a tough stance on the use of ‘high resolution LED headlights’, one of the major reasons for accidents on the state’s roads. In response to an unstarred question asked by MLA Anita Jatav in the Rajasthan Assembly, the Transport Department has clearly admitted that there is a strong possibility of accidents due to such lights. According to the data of the Transport Department, in a special campaign conducted by the Police Headquarters from November 20, 2025 to November 30, 2025, action has been taken against 1,390 vehicles having illegal LED lights. Apart from this, 83 challans were issued and a fine of Rs 1.67 lakh was collected by the Transport and Road Safety Department during regular checking from 1 April 2025 to 19 February 2026. Transport Commissioner Purushottam Sharma has issued clear instructions in this regard to all the regional and district transport officers of the state. These instructions state that strict action should be taken against LED lights and red/blue flash lights installed contrary to the AIS standards of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Better coordination should be established with the police department for this action. In this regard, a letter has also been written to the Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) requesting him to run a special campaign.
