New Delhi, March 1 (IANS). The high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has started on Sunday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This important meeting is being held at the Prime Minister’s residence.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, NSA Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri are present in this meeting.
This meeting of the Cabinet Committee, India’s largest decision-making body on security and strategic matters, is taking place at a time when regional conflicts have escalated amid the rapidly deteriorating geopolitical situation in the Middle East following the US-Israeli airstrike on Iran and global security concerns have increased.
Let us tell you that CCS is the largest body for decisions related to national security of India, which includes the Prime Minister and Defense, Home, Foreign and Finance Ministers. The CCS meeting is being seen as a response to recent events in West Asia, including the US-Israeli attacks on Iranian targets and subsequent retaliation. Reports suggest that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed in related clashes, raising fears of a major conflict.
The meeting is expected to review the impact on India’s strategic interests, which include security of Indian citizens, energy security, sea lanes and diplomatic positioning in the region, especially in the UAE and other Gulf countries.
India has maintained a balanced stance in the Middle East crisis, advocating de-escalation while protecting its citizens and economic ties.
Sources say that the discussion may include emergency plan to evacuate people if needed, impact on oil prices and coordination with international partners. This is the latest in a series of high-stakes security reviews as global tensions rise.
