New Delhi, March 3 (IANS). Holi, a festival full of colors and joy, is on March 4, preparations for which are in full swing. However, the colors may fade due to weather changes, chemical colors and unhealthy diet. In such a situation, Ayurveda suggests 5 easy solutions to ensure that the ‘Festival of Colours’ remains happy and healthy.

According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, use of chemical colors can cause problems like skin irritation, allergies, eye irritation and stomach problems. At the same time, heavy eating can cause many physical problems including indigestion. According to Ayurveda, the festival can be made completely safe and joyful by adopting natural methods.

Choose natural and home colors: Chemical colors harm the skin and sometimes cause allergies or infections. Instead use gram flour, turmeric, gulal, flower colors (like rose, tesu, hibiscus) and herbal powder. These natural colors are not only safe but also nourish the skin. Turmeric has anti-bacterial properties, which keep the skin healthy.

Apply oil on body and hair: Before playing Holi, apply coconut oil or sesame oil thoroughly on the skin and hair. The thin layer of oil prevents the colors from penetrating deep into the skin and the colors wash off easily. Due to this, the skin does not become dry and there is no problem of burning or itching. By applying oil on the hair, the color does not reach the roots.

Eat a balanced and light diet: Avoid fried, spicy and heavy food on Holi. Eating too much sweet, oily and creamy food can cause stomach upset. Instead, take seasonal fruits, coconut water, lemonade, buttermilk, herbal juices and light satvik food. This will keep the body light and will not cause fatigue.

Drink plenty of water and healthy drinks: The body sweats a lot while playing colors, so drink plenty of water throughout the day to avoid dehydration. It is best to have lemon water, coconut water, or mint syrup. It keeps the body hydrated, reduces the effects of colors, and also keeps the skin healthy.

Special protection of eyes and skin:- Color getting into eyes can cause irritation and infection. Wear glasses or keep your eyes tightly closed while playing. After the game is over, wash face and body immediately with clean cold water. Wash eyes several times with clean water. If color gets applied, clean it with rose water or plain water.

Apart from these easy measures, enjoy Holi, but avoid adulterated and unhygienic food. Buy goods only from trusted shops, and definitely check the expiry date of packaged items. Avoid open, fried and artificially colored foods.
