New Delhi, March 3 (IANS). The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has strongly condemned the joint open attacks by the US and Israel against Iran. The Board particularly expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and described it as a great loss to the Muslim Ummah.
The board has appealed to the United Nations and the international community to immediately implement a ceasefire and take concrete steps to prevent the region from slipping into a major war. Board spokesperson Dr. S. Why. R. Ilyas said in a press statement that considerable progress had been made in talks with the US on Iran’s nuclear program.
Iran accepted most of America’s conditions through the mediation of Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi. Despite this, America suddenly announced an end to the talks and immediately attacked Iran along with Israel. Dr. Ilyas called it just an excuse for diplomacy and said that it is a clear violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
Dr. Ilyas termed the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei as a deep shock for the Muslim world. He said that targeting the central leadership of a sovereign country and openly talking about regime change is completely unacceptable. This attack has destabilized the entire Middle East. While some European countries are supporting America, Russia and China are in favor of Iran. If there is no immediate effective diplomatic intervention, this conflict could turn into a global war. A prolonged war will deepen the humanitarian crisis and have a negative impact on the global economy, with the greatest burden falling on developing and vulnerable countries.
Dr. Ilyas regretted that at such a critical time, India could have played the role of a balanced and respectful mediator, but the current policy has affected the credibility of the country’s foreign policy. He also expressed concern that no official message of condolence was issued by the Government of India on the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei, which is contrary to ethical and diplomatic traditions.
The Board once again appeals to the Government of India, the United Nations and the international community to take immediate, serious and practical steps to stop the war. Otherwise this fire will not be limited to any one area and no country will be left untouched by its consequences.
