Main points of protest
Mehbooba Mufti demonstrated along with her party workers in Srinagar. They burned effigies and posters of Trump and Netanyahu as well as Jeffrey Epstein. Mufti used Epstein’s name to link alleged ‘criminal ties’. PDP supporters held posters of late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in their hands and raised slogans against America and Israel. Mehbooba accused the central government and the local administration of maintaining silence on this serious matter and becoming ‘silent spectators’.
Demand for police action and FIR
During the protest, Mehbooba Mufti demanded that the FIRs registered against MP Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi and former Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu be withdrawn. The police have registered a case under the Indian Justice Code (BNS) accusing these leaders of disturbing peace through social media posts. Police have increased security in Srinagar and strict action is being taken in areas like Lal Chowk to maintain law and order.
