New Delhi, March 7 (IANS). Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has introduced its new generation Blade Battery 2.0, which is a new EV battery technology and promises to deliver a driving range of over 1,000 kilometers. Apart from this, ultra-fast charging and better security features are also provided in it.
According to the company, this battery is capable of delivering a driving range of more than 1,000 kilometers under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).
This is a big improvement over the first generation blade batteries, which typically gave a range of around 600 kilometers under similar conditions.
The most special feature of the new battery is its ultra-fast charging capability. According to BYD, its ‘flash charging’ system can charge the battery from 10 percent to 70 percent in just 5 minutes.
According to the company, under normal circumstances it takes about 9 minutes to charge the battery from 10 percent to 97 percent.
This battery performs well even in extremely cold weather. According to the company, even if the battery is kept in minus 30 degree Celsius temperature for 24 hours, it can still be charged from 20 percent to 97 percent in about 12 minutes.
BYD Chairman and CEO Wang Chuanfu said that this new battery has been designed in such a way that it can provide fast charging speed even in extremely cold environments.
He said that high energy density technology has been used in the battery, which will provide longer driving range to future electric vehicles.
According to the company, vehicles equipped with Blade Battery 2.0 can charge 30 percent to 50 percent faster than most current electric vehicles.
Wang also said that it is better to charge the battery up to 97 percent so that the remaining battery capacity can be used through regenerative braking while driving.
Safety is also an important part of the design of blade batteries. BYD says that this battery has gone through several rigorous safety tests, including nail penetration and bottom impact tests. It also outperforms China’s latest national safety standards.
The new battery will first be used in BYD’s premium brand Yangwang’s luxury electric sedan Yangwang U7.
According to product director Zheng Yu, with a 150 kilowatt-hour battery pack, the car will be able to deliver a pure electric range of about 1,006 kilometers under CLTC standards.
