On Wednesday, a massive encounter took place between police and criminals in Patna, the capital of Bihar. In this operation conducted under the jurisdiction of Fatuha Police Station, the police successfully foiled the nefarious designs of a large inter-district criminal gang. During the shootout, a notorious criminal named Sundaram was shot in the leg in police retaliatory firing.
Police recovered illegal weapons and more than 1,200 live cartridges from the spot. The discovery of such a large quantity of ammunition has created a stir in the police department. Initial investigation has revealed that the criminals were conspiring to commit a major crime.
Patna’s SSP Karthikeya K. Sharma said that the Station House Officer (SHO) of Fatuha police station had received intelligence that a gang was planning to supply illegal arms and ammunition. On the instructions of the SSP, a special team was immediately formed and the said place was raided. As soon as they saw the police, the criminals tried to run away and out of fear of being caught, opened fire on the police team. In self-defence, the police retaliated in a restrained manner, resulting in injury to notorious criminal Sundaram. After this, his two companions lost their courage and surrendered before the police.
Criminals’ connection with Chhapra
According to the SSP, the arrested criminals are said to be residents of Chapra (Saran) district. The police are now thoroughly investigating his criminal record. SSP Karthikeya K. Sharma said: “We have recovered more than 1,200 cartridges and a country-made pistol from the spot. We are now investigating the source of these cartridges and finding out from where they got these things in such huge quantities.”
