Sarva Pitra Amavasya is celebrated every year on Amavasya Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. On this day, the ancestral side ends. This day is for the ancestors whose death date is not known or whose shraddha has not been done for any reason. On the day of Sarva Pitra Amavasya, Pindadan, Tarpan and Shraddha are performed for the peace of the soul of the ancestors.
It is believed that by offering some special things on the Shivling on this day, Pitra dosha is removed and all the sufferings of life are eliminated.
Offer these things on Shivling
Ganga water and milk – Mix the Ganges water and raw milk and anoint the Shivling. This calms the soul of the ancestors and reduces the effect of Pitra dosha.
Mole and Barley – Offer black sesame and barley on the Shivling. Sesame is considered related to Saturn and ancestors. This gives freedom from Pitra dosha.
Bilva Patra – Offer 108 bilva letters on Shivling. Get special benefits by writing ‘4’ from sandalwood on the bellipat.
Durva Grass – Lord Shiva is very dear to Durva grass. Offering durva on Shivling gives success in education.
Shami leaves – Shami leaves are also dear to Shani Dev. By placing them on Shivling, Pitra dosha is removed and happiness and peace in life.
Flowers and lamps – Light a lamp of white flowers and pure ghee on the Shivling. By doing this, one gets the grace of the Shiva family. Also, there is auspiciousness in life.
