New Delhi, March 21 (). Former Indian left-arm fast bowler Irfan Pathan says that Mumbai Indians have the upper hand over Chennai Super Kings in the debate of the ‘best team’ of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He said that the Mumbai team has given many match-winning players to India.
“Choosing Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians as the best IPL team has always been a subject of debate. Chennai started winning IPL titles since 2010. They won two consecutive titles in 2010 and 2011 and became the first team to do so. However, when Mumbai Indians started winning from 2013, they would win the title every other year,” Pathan told Geostar. Then he won the IPL trophy twice in 2019 and 2020.
Irfan Pathan said that Mumbai Indians have given many match-winners to Indian cricket. He said, “What I like most about Mumbai Indians is their significant contribution to Indian cricket. The number of match-winning players they have given to the Indian team is really commendable. How do you do that? First, you make your franchise big. Second, you give great results with the team you have. Last season, Mumbai Indians had a tremendous team, which could have easily won the trophy; but Due to various reasons they could not do so.
Pathan said, “Chennai Super Kings do not have 4 Indian captains, whereas Mumbai Indians do. In this sense – that is, in terms of building a team and contributing to a bigger cause, I think Mumbai Indians is the best team in the IPL. I know Chennai Super Kings will always say that they are also the best, because they too have won 5 trophies. There is no doubt about it. This debate will always go on and it is a fair debate too. However, I think It seems that Mumbai Indians have the upper hand because they have given so many great cricketers and young talent to Indian cricket.”
