Una, 16 September (). Bharatiya Janata Party MP Anurag Thakur held a meeting with representatives of various business organizations at Una District Office Deep Kamal on Tuesday evening. The main objective of the meeting was to consult the recent rates in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) by the Central Government. The MP termed these reforms, which had been implemented from 22 September 2025 under the recommendations of the 56th GST Council.
Business organizations thanked the Central Government through MP. He said that the reduction in GST rates will give direct benefit to the general public, especially on everyday goods. Anurag Thakur said, “The GST system has become simple and transparent under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The implementation of GST has led to an unprecedented increase in tax collection. Now the reforms applicable from September 22 will reduce the prices of food items, two -wheelers and cars.”
He said that GST at gym, salon and yoga classes has been reduced from 18 to 5 percent, while items like soap, shampoos, toothpastes, bicycles and kitchenware will also be applicable. A cut by 18 to 5 percent on manmade fiber and 12 to 5 percent on yarn (thread) will boost the textile industry.
Thakur said that these reforms will prove to be a boon for the middle class. Electronic items like AC, dishwasher and TV will also get relief. He appealed to the traders that the government is always ready to protect their interests. Representatives of the Una Chamber of Commerce and Traders Association attended the meeting, who hoped to increase consumer purchases with these steps.
During the meeting, Thakur also took a sarcasm at the opposition. Reacting to the statement of former Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi after the India-Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2025, he said, “Congress is the only party that is praised by India. In Operation Sindoor, India gave a befitting reply to Pakistan and won the martyrs in the playground too. But the Congress demands evidence from its soldiers, that is why Pakistan always supports them.”
