
Badminton tournament: Yonex Sunrise Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta Memorial All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament has started in Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow. The tournament was formally inaugurated by the Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Satish Mahana. The total prize of this tournament organized under the aegis of the Indian Badminton Association at UP Badminton Academy is Rs 10 lakh. Star shuttler Mansi Singh has made a great start to his campaign in the badminton tournament. She defeated Maharashtra’s Madhumita Narayan 21-21–14 in the first round in the first match of the women’s singles.
Assembly Speaker inaugurated
Addressing Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana, while addressing, the players should focus on their goals like a fish eye, so that they can make their mark in the sports world. He also said that both victory and defeat should be accepted with patience and self -confidence. This tournament is an important platform for the players of Uttar Pradesh along with encouraging players across the country. Principal Secretary of Assembly Pradeep Dubey was also present as special guests on the occasion.
International identity target
Presiding over the inauguration ceremony, Uttar Pradesh Badminton Association Chairman Viraj Sagar Das said that 1396 players from 27 states are participating in the tournament. The tournament is being held every year from 2018 in memory of his father Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta. He hoped that it would be made an internationally recognized tournament in the coming time. He also thanked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who has declared badminton as the game of the state.
Great performance of other players
In the women’s singles, the top seed Mansi Singh will next face Pavitra Naveen of Kerala, who defeated Tanisha Singh of Rajasthan 21-10 21-13. At the same time, 13th seed Amolika Singh of UP also defeated qualifier Simran Chaudhary 21-13, 19-21, 21-14 in an exciting match. Taranjit Kaur of UP defeated Karnataka’s Disha Santosh 21-18, 21-7 and Tanisha Singh defeated Lavanya Karki of Uttarakhand 21-15, 21-18 to make it to the next round. In the men’s singles, Rajan Yadav of UP defeated Advit Bhargava of Delhi 21-19, 21-19, while qualifier Ansh Vishal Gupta defeated Atharva Joshi of Maharashtra 21-19 12-21, 21-11 to enter the next round.
