Chandigarh. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab State Media Incharge Baltej Pannu said that the campaign launched by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led government to eliminate gangsters is getting overwhelming support from the people. Pannu said that the people of Punjab have come forward in large numbers to help the police on the special helpline number issued against gangsters, which is proof that now there is no room left for criminals in the state. While sharing the figures, Baltej Pannu said that till now about 590 people have registered their complaints on this helpline. He clarified that the government’s priority is the safety of the complainant, hence the name of every person giving information is being kept completely confidential. Of the complaints received, 83 complaints have been lodged against drug smuggling, 35 against extortion (ransom), 43 against gangsters and 86 against illegal weapons. Taking immediate action on the basis of these complaints, FIRs have been registered in 63 serious cases so far. Pannu further said that the FIR lodged has names of different gangsters and their henchmen, which has broken the back of their network. He said that such a large number of people fearlessly filing complaints shows that the people of Punjab have full faith in the intentions of the ‘Anti-Gangster Task Force’ and the Mann government. Many more complaints are still being investigated in depth, on which legal action will be taken soon.
Baltej Pannu said that it is because of this unwavering trust of the people that AGTF has achieved such great success in the fight against gangsterism today. He assured the people of Punjab that this campaign to make the state crime free and safe will continue until gangsterism is eliminated from Punjab.
