Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay on Sunday announced that he will contest from Perambur and Trichy East assembly constituencies in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Announcing the names of his party’s candidates, he said, “Vote for CT, this is the election of CT revolution.”
It is noteworthy that the election symbol of TVK is whistle. Let us tell you that actor turned politician Vijay is making his debut in politics with his party TVK in this election.
Vijay will face DMK’s sitting MLA RD Shekhar, who will contest from Perambur. Apart from this, he is also facing competition from sitting MLA and DMK candidate Inigo Irudayaraj in Trichy East.
Addressing a press conference, Vijay stressed on being loyal, honest and dedicated to public service and said that women’s safety and a drug-free Tamil Nadu would be given priority after winning the upcoming assembly elections.
Vijay said, “I urge the public to vote for TVK and our whistle symbol. We are only for the public, and will always be for the public. After winning, I promise that we will never misuse public funds nor indulge in corruption. We will ensure the safety of women, make Tamil Nadu drug-free and strictly maintain law and order. I assure you that we will never work against the interests of the people of this state. This is my promise. I humbly request the people of Tamil Nadu to give TVK a chance for the welfare of Tamil Nadu.”
TVK’s election campaign management general secretary Aadhav Arjun had earlier said that Vijay would contest from a constituency in North Chennai this year in the upcoming elections. Now the party chief has decided to choose Perambur assembly constituency which falls in North Chennai region.
Party general secretary N Anand will contest from T. Nagar constituency, and treasurer Venkat Ramanan will contest from Mylapore.
From Kolathur, VS Babu has been pitted against DMK’s MK Stalin, while TVK’s Selvam will fight against Udhayanidhi Stalin in Chepauk.
Furthermore, in his address today, Vijay emphasized that TVK party MLAs are different from MLAs of other parties. He understands the struggle of the common man, is the voice of the people and the protector of the Legislative Assembly.
He further said, “Today is a very important day, a day when we are introducing true protectors of the people (candidates). Our candidates come from ordinary backgrounds. They are not rich or powerful people. They understand the struggles of the common man. Not like other corrupt MLAs. An MLA should not rely only on experience. What is important is honesty, responsibility and commitment to the public. An MLA is not just a representative; he is the protector of the assembly and the voice of the public. I personally Each candidate has been formally selected after thorough deliberations.”
In an indirect attack on the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, he said, “The alliance we are talking about (DMK), is not a strong or natural alliance. Such alliances do not last, especially when the result is already known.”
Vijay made several important election promises, emphasizing his vision of a drug-free and self-reliant Tamil Nadu. He also assured that all government examinations will be conducted on time without any delay. Highlighting the welfare of the youth, Vijay announced a monthly assistance of ₹4,000 for graduates and ₹2,000 for diploma holders.
