New Delhi, April 2 (IANS). Indian Overseas Congress chief Sam Pitroda said that strong political will at the national level is necessary for concrete reforms in sectors like education and health in the country.

Speaking to IANS, Pitroda termed Arvind Kejriwal’s free education model as “bogus”. He said, “It is all bogus. They have no understanding. I say that it requires political will at the national level. You cannot make it successful by implementing it in one or two colleges or in one state separately.”

He further said, “There should be a vision as a country that we will take responsibility for education and health. Every child should get almost free education.”

Pitroda also expressed concern over the high fees of private schools in India. He said, “Today small children are paying fees of Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 per month to go to school, which is not at all logical. I believe that education and health should not be privatized so much.”

He said that the government cannot step back from its responsibility. “The private sector also has a role to play, but the government cannot abdicate its responsibility. Today we as a nation are abdicating our responsibility.”

On the issue of Muslim reservation under Other Backward Classes (OBC), Pitroda said that Muslims should also get its benefits, but all people from the lower strata of the society need help.

He said, “I myself belong to an OBC family, but in my generation it was not given much attention. I also came to know later. When we talk about benefits for OBCs, Muslims and other sections, education and health should be almost free.”
