In view of the ongoing tension in West Asia, the Indian government has come on full alert mode. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has held the second major meeting with a special group of ministers (IGoM). The government’s full attention is on ensuring that the turmoil in Gulf countries and West Asia does not affect the pockets of the common Indian citizen and the essential supplies of the country. For this, instructions have been given to monitor the situation 24 hours so that immediate steps can be taken in case of any crisis.
What relief did the common man and flight passengers get?
There is a fear of fluctuations in oil prices due to the crisis in West Asia. In view of this, the government has taken some big decisions. To provide relief to air travelers, a cap of 25% has been imposed on the increase in monthly prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF). This rule will be considered applicable from April 1, 2026. The advantage of this will be that airlines will not be able to suddenly increase flight ticket prices too much.
Custom duty on 40 essential petrochemical products has been completely abolished by June 2026. The supply of domestic LPG i.e. cooking gas will be kept at the top so that there is no shortage in homes. Now strict action will be taken against those involved in hoarding and black marketing. Emphasis is being laid on the sale of 5 kg free trade cylinders for laborers and small families.
Government priority and important data
In this meeting Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Foreign Minister S. Many senior ministers including Jaishankar and Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri attended. The main objective of the government is to maintain energy security i.e. the supply of petrol and diesel and to keep the industries running. The supply of commercial gas for industrial needs is still maintained at 80% level so that factories are not closed.
Subject: Decision taken: Air fuel (ATF) 25% cap imposed on price increase. Petrochemicals: Duty waived on 40 items till June 2026. 24-hour monitoring of situation will be done. LPG cylinder: More than 4.3 lakh 5 kg cylinders sold.
