Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been strongly raising the issue of infiltration in the state in all his public meetings, blaming Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party, Trinamool Congress (TMC) for it. Objecting to these allegations of Amit Shah, senior TMC leader and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the Union Home Minister on Friday (April 10, 2026). Additionally, countering Shah’s comments regarding infiltration from Bangladesh, he also mentioned the ousted former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina. He demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah clarify whether the ousted Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, should be called an infiltrator. Also, Abhishek Banerjee also questioned the role of the Home Ministry in the context of its failure to prevent the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam and New Delhi last year.

During the conference, he demanded that Shah clarify whether Sheikh Hasina—who has been granted asylum by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government—should be called an infiltrator. Referring to Shah’s resolve to take strict action against infiltrators and uproot them even from remote corners, Abhishek alleged that the Union Home Minister was only repeating the same old things and spreading misinformation on the issue. He said, “If we have to discuss infiltration, then what is the status of the ousted Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, who has been living in India for the last one and a half years?
