Bengaluru, May 7 (IANS). Karnataka Opposition leader R Ashok on Thursday alleged that Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee has insulted the Constitution by refusing to resign as chief minister. He said that if they have any complaint, they should approach the court instead of resorting to violence.
Speaking to journalists in Bengaluru, he said that Mamata Banerjee is insulting the Constitution. By saying that she will not resign, she is disrespecting the Constitution. She wants to create a new drama by asking others to sack themselves. They neither understand the law nor the Constitution.
He alleged that Banerjee was stuck to the Chief Minister’s chair by applying Fevicol. Any Chief Minister with dignity would have resigned and left the post. The post of Chief Minister should be respected. She wants riots. That is why TNC leaders killed Chandranath Rath.
Ashoka claimed that Banerjee wanted to control the entire state alone. Even if he does not resign, his powers will automatically end after the dissolution of the current Assembly.
He said that due to the arrogance of power, she is behaving as if only she should remain the Chief Minister. Despite being CM for so long, he lacks basic understanding, and people have understood this.
He raised the question that what would have been Banerjee’s reaction if the previous leader, who had ruled for 30 years, had behaved in a similar manner. If they have any problem, they should go to court. We had also gone to court in the case related to DN Jeevraj. This is how legal battles should be fought, not through killings.
Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, leader of opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Council, also criticized the Congress, alleging that after actor-politician C Joseph Vijay-led party TVK won a majority of seats in Tamil Nadu, the Congress had approached the party overnight demanding a ministerial berth.
Speaking to reporters at the BJP state office ‘Jagannath Bhawan’, Narayanaswamy alleged that despite being a national party, the condition of the Congress has become very shameful.
He alleged that the Congress in Tamil Nadu, which was earlier with the DMK, is now approaching Vijay’s party and demanding ministerial posts because that party has got more seats. By leaving its alliance with DMK, the condition of Congress has now become like that of beggars.
