Bhopal,. The Madhya Pradesh government on Friday recommended handing over the investigation into Twisha Sharma’s death to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In an official statement issued on Friday, the state home department said a message has been sent to the Centre, requesting it to hand over the investigation of Twisha Sharma’s case to the CBI. This case is related to the death of Twisha Sharma on May 12 in Bagh Mughalia Extension located in Katara Hills area of Bhopal.
According to the government statement, a criminal case has already been registered at Katara Hills Police Station under crime number 133/2026.
The FIR includes charges under sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS), 2023, as well as sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
“It has been proposed to hand over the investigation of the case registered in connection with the dowry-related death incident that took place on May 12 in Bagh Mughalia Extension, Katara Hills, Bhopal, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI),” the Madhya Pradesh government said in a statement.
The state government clarified that it has given its consent under Section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946. Under this, members of the Delhi Special Police Establishment (under which the CBI functions) have been permitted to exercise their powers and jurisdiction throughout the state of Madhya Pradesh for the purpose of investigating this case.
The statement further said, “The Government of Madhya Pradesh has given its consent for extension of powers and jurisdiction of members of the Delhi Special Police Establishment across the state to investigate this case.”
The notification also said that consent has been given to investigate the alleged crime, including any inciting action and criminal conspiracy related to the matter.
The development comes days after Twisha’s family met Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and requested for a fair investigation by the CBI.
Twisha Sharma’s death has given rise to widespread discussion and allegations of dowry harassment, leading to demands for an independent investigation from various quarters.
The move to hand over the investigation to the CBI is being seen as an important step by the state government towards ensuring a fair and transparent investigation in the case.
The CBI is likely to formally take charge of the case after the formal procedures are completed and relevant documents are received from Madhya Pradesh Police.
