New Delhi, May 24 (IANS). These days, the scorching heat continues to wreak havoc in many parts of the country. Orange and red alerts have also been issued in many states. At the same time, Nautapa is going to occur from May 25 to June 2, during which the heat is likely to increase further. In such a situation, it has become very important for the people traveling to be careful.
The National Health Mission (NHM) of the Government of India has issued important suggestions to make summer travel safe and comfortable. The Mission says that with a little preparation and proper precautions, travel during the summer season can be made easier.
Pre-travel preparation: Get good sleep and adequate rest before starting the journey. Wear light, cotton and loose clothes so that air circulation remains in the body and heat is reduced. To protect yourself from the sun, carry an umbrella, hat, sunglasses and SPF sunscreen.
Keep these things in mind while travelling: Never go on a journey on an empty stomach. Be sure to have light breakfast from home. Always keep a water bottle with you and keep drinking water by taking small sips frequently. Keep ORS, lemon water, coconut water or glucose powder with you. This will prevent dehydration. At the same time, choose light, fresh and easily digestible food. Never eat heavy, fried or outside food. Keep a special eye on children and the elderly. Keep feeding them water every now and then.
Other important precautions: If possible, avoid traveling between 12 noon and 3 pm. Do not keep the AC temperature in the vehicle too low. If you have to stay somewhere, choose a shady and cool place. Rest immediately if you feel tired. Health experts say that it is most important to maintain the balance of water and electrolytes to avoid dehydration and heat stroke.
