New Delhi, May 25 (IANS). National President of All India Mahila Congress Alka Lamba has got a big shock from Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court. The court has convicted Alka Lamba in the case related to the protest demanding implementation of women’s reservation at Jantar Mantar. Now on June 5, there will be a debate in the court on Alka Lamba’s sentence.

Congress leader Alka Lamba has been accused of assaulting government employees, obstructing work, disobeying legal orders and blocking public roads. Alka Lamba was facing a case under sections 132, 221, 223 (A) and 285 of the Indian Penal Code, in which the court today declared her guilty. In the last hearing, the court had said that a prima facie case is made out against Alka Lamba.

Despite Delhi Police issuing prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Defense Code, Alka Lamba had protested against Mahila Congress’s reservation for women at Jantar Mantar on 29 July 2024. Alka Lamba is accused of violating the prohibitory order by reaching the barricade on Tolstoy Marg with the protesters and raising slogans. Lamba was intent on gheraoing the Parliament. Senior police officers present at the spot informed the protesters through loudspeakers about the prohibitory order and warned them to end the protest.

According to Delhi Police, Alka Lamba and her supporters pushed the policemen, crossed the barricade and blocked Parliament Street. Even after much persuasion by the police, Alka Lamba and other supporters did not move away from there, after which they were arrested. Later, on the statement of Sub-Inspector Anita Singh, an FIR was registered against Alka Lamba. On December 20, 2025, the court had watched the video of the incident, in which it was found that Alka was forcefully obstructing the public servant in his work.
