ICMR’s new study has made shocking revelations about the eating habits of Indians. According to the report, most of the people in the country are eating more bread and rice than required, while consuming less pulses, green vegetables, fruits and protein-rich things. Experts have called it a matter of health concern.

According to the study, the amount of carbohydrates in Indian food continues to be high. This means that people are taking more food items like wheat and rice in their diet, while the proteins, vitamins and minerals required for balanced nutrition of the body are not being available in sufficient quantities.

Experts say that long-term unbalanced eating can increase the risk of problems like obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Processed food and irregular eating habits, especially in urban areas, have made the situation more serious.

It has been said in the report that pulses, milk, eggs, fruits, nuts and green vegetables are very important for the body, but a large population is not including them in their diet in sufficient quantity. Many people focus only on filling the stomach and not on nutritional balance.

In view of the increasing cases of Type 2 diabetes and obesity, experts have advised people to adopt a balanced diet. He says that the amount of bread and rice in the plate should be reduced and pulses, salad, fruits and protein items should be increased.

ICMR has described regular exercise and balanced diet as essential for a healthy lifestyle. According to the report, the habit of fast food and junk food is increasing rapidly among children and youth, which can cause serious health problems in future.

Nutrition experts say that Indian traditional food can be extremely nutritious if adopted with the right balance. It is important to make things like pulses, millet, green vegetables, curd and seasonal fruits a part of the daily diet.

The study also indicates that there is a need to increase nutritional awareness among people so that the risk of lifestyle diseases can be reduced in future.
