Jaipur, June 3 (IANS). Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has given clear instructions to the officials of the Energy Department with the aim of making Rajasthan self-reliant in the electricity sector by the year 2027. He said that work should be done rapidly towards making the state not only a power consumer but also among the leading power producing states of the country.

While presiding over the high-level review meeting of the Energy Department held at the Chief Minister’s residence on Wednesday, Bhajanlal Sharma said that effective management of power generation, transmission and distribution system should be ensured, so that farmers, industries and the general public can get uninterrupted power supply.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to follow the decided action plans with full responsibility and accountability. He directed to expedite all the ongoing works to strengthen the power infrastructure of the state.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister also mentioned the plan to provide electricity to farmers during the day. He said that this facility, which is currently available in 26 districts, should be extended to the remaining districts as soon as possible.

Along with this, he stressed on increasing public participation to reach the maximum benefits of Pradhan Mantri Kusum Yojana and PM Surya Ghar Yojana to the eligible people. The Chief Minister also directed to ensure better coordination among all the Discoms, so that the availability of electricity remains smooth in the entire state.

He mentioned completing the remaining works under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) in Jodhpur Discom on priority basis and making the consumer grievance redressal system technology based.

Officials told the meeting that on June 2, the state’s thermal power plants produced a record 7,171 MW. Whereas in May 2025, Rajasthan had to purchase about 8 percent of its total electricity requirement from external sources, which has reduced to only 2 percent in May 2026.

Officials also informed that in the last two and a half years, 60 Grid Sub-Stations (GSS) of 400 KV, 220 KV and 132 KV capacity have been established in the state, while work on 151 new GSS is in progress. During the same period, 444 sub-stations of 33 KV capacity have been commissioned and construction work of 211 more sub-stations is in progress.

Minister of State for Energy (Independent Charge) Hiralal Nagar, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Akhil Arora, Energy Secretary Aarti Dogra and senior officials of the department were present in the meeting.
