Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday wished everyone on World Environment Day by planting a mango tree under the ‘One Tree in the Name of Mother’ campaign at his official residence. He said that if the environment is saved then nature will be saved, if nature is saved then living beings will also be saved, hence every citizen should fulfill his responsibilities towards the motherland honestly. Addressing the program, CM Yogi said that with the inspiration of the Prime Minister, the state government has taken many important steps in the last 9 years while discharging its responsibilities towards the environment and nature. As soon as it assumed power in 2017, the double engine government took up the 5 crore tree plantation program on the occasion of Van Mahotsav. At that time we had many challenges. There was neither a nursery nor the experience to carry forward such a large programme, but the forest and other departments did remarkable work towards achieving this goal. CM Yogi said that within 9 years, more than 242 crore saplings were planted in the state, due to which the forest cover of the state also increased. PM Modi, while fulfilling his responsibilities towards nature and motherland, had launched the ‘Ek Tree Maa Ke Naam’ campaign three years ago as a mark of gratitude. In continuation of this campaign, a plantation drive is going to start today.
Referring to Lord Shri Ram’s proclamation ‘Janani Janmabhoomisch Swargadapi Gariyasi’, he said that gratitude towards the mother and birthplace is the responsibility of every citizen. Protecting the environment is one of the highest responsibilities towards the motherland. On one hand, the state government is running a massive plantation program to protect the environment, while on the other hand, many steps have also been taken to deal with environmental challenges like global warming, climate change, changes in the weather cycle. The government’s effort is to make villages, cities, districts and states plastic free. Single use plastic was discouraged and earthen utensils were encouraged in its place. For this, the state government insisted on the establishment of Soil Art Board. From April to June, arrangements were made to provide free soil to the people of Prajapati and Kumhar community from the ponds of every village and city. Along with manuals, they were provided solar and electric chalk.
The Chief Minister said that many steps were taken in the state for water conservation and many models were presented. The Development Authority has made rain water harvesting mandatory for residential buildings and commercial complexes being built in areas larger than a certain area. The Chief Minister appealed to all the people to plant saplings and conserve them under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
