There was no change in the prices of petrol and diesel on Friday, June 5. Earlier, on May 25, oil marketing companies (OMCs) had increased prices by more than ₹2.50 per litre. It is noteworthy that since May 15, the prices of petrol and diesel have increased by a total of about ₹ 7.5 per liter, taking the fuel prices to their highest level since May 2022. However, barring a cut of ₹2 per liter in March 2024, petrol and diesel prices had remained almost stable for more than two years.

The main reason for the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices is the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Due to this conflict, there has been a sharp rise in the prices of crude oil in the international market, the effect of which is being seen in India also. Here, prices of petrol and diesel have been increased for the fourth time in less than two weeks.
**Change in prices of petrol and diesel**
On May 25, petrol prices were increased by ₹2.61 per liter and diesel prices by ₹2.71 per litre. This was the fourth consecutive increase. As a result, petrol price in the capital Delhi increased from ₹99.51 per liter to ₹102.12 per litre, while diesel price increased from ₹92.49 per liter to ₹95.20 per litre.
