Patna, June 6 (IANS). LJP (Ram Vilas) has made the party’s acting state president Ashraf Ansari its candidate for the Bihar Legislative Council (MLC) elections. National Principal General Secretary Abdul Khaliq gave this information on Saturday.
National Principal General Secretary Abdul Khaliq issued a statement on Saturday saying that the Central Parliamentary Board of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has given its formal approval to the name of Ashraf Ansari after deliberations in the context of the proposed Legislative Council biennial elections-2026 in Bihar state.
BJP and JDU, included in the NDA, had announced their candidates on Friday. BJP has fielded Pawan Singh, Dr. Sanjay Mayukh, Anil Kumar Thakur and Sheela Pandit as candidates for the Bihar Legislative Council biennial elections 2026. Whereas JDU has made candidates Nishant Kumar, son of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, party’s state spokesperson Dr. Bharti Mehta and former West Champaran District Council President Shivani Prajapati.
JDU has also decided to send Lalan Prasad to the Legislative Council. Biennial elections for nine seats of the Legislative Council will be held on June 18. Along with this, by-election will also be held on a seat that became vacant after former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar became a Rajya Sabha member. NDA has about 202 MLAs in the 243-member assembly. As per the current equations, the support of around 25 MLAs is considered sufficient to win a seat. In such a situation, the path to 8 seats for NDA appears almost clear. The opposition ‘India’ alliance has 35 MLAs in the Bihar Assembly, due to which it can easily win one of the 10 Legislative Council seats. However, his chances on the second seat will be only after the support of AIMIM and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLAs.
