New Delhi, June 9 (IANS). The hectic pace and irregular lifestyle of modern life has completely changed the eating habits and lifestyle of humans. The direct and most adverse effect of this change falls on our internal organs, in which mainly the liver and kidneys are most affected. While the liver works to remove harmful elements from the body (detoxification), the kidney purifies (filters) the blood.
When the functioning of these two organs gets affected, the body becomes vulnerable to many serious diseases. This is the reason why people are now turning to yoga again to maintain their health. Mandukasana is one of the many yoga asanas, which is said to be very beneficial for the liver and kidneys.
Mandukasana is very easy. To do this asana, first of all one has to sit in Vajrasana and then make fists of both the hands in such a way that the thumbs are inside the fingers. Now keep the fists of both hands near the stomach and bend forward. This asana puts mild pressure on the stomach. Stay in this position for some time and then slowly come back to normal position.
While doing Mandukasana, slight pressure is created on the abdominal part, this improves blood flow in the organs present inside the stomach. Better blood flow allows more oxygen and nutrition to reach the organs. This process is considered good for the liver and kidneys, because it improves their functioning.
In case of liver, this asana is considered useful because the liver cleans the dirt and toxic elements from our body. When slight pressure is applied on the stomach, the veins and blood flow around the liver become active. This makes it easier for the liver to do its work. Besides, the digestion process also improves, because the liver also helps in producing digestive juices. When digestion is good, there is not much pressure on the liver.
Mandukasana is also considered beneficial for kidneys. The function of the kidney is to filter the blood and remove waste from the body through urine. When there is slight pressure on the stomach and lower waist in this yoga asana, the blood flow increases there. This helps the kidneys to do their work better. Along with this, it also helps in maintaining the balance of water and salt in the body.
Another benefit of this yoga asana is that it helps in reducing stress. When a person remains in this position by taking deep breaths, both the body and mind become calm. Reducing stress also has a positive effect on the internal organs of the body.
