Mussoorie: A painful road accident took place in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand on Wednesday morning. Four people died after a car fell into a gorge about 500 meters deep. After the accident, ITBP, SDRF, Police, Fire Service and Medical Department teams jointly conducted a large-scale relief and rescue operation.
The accident happened around 9 am on the Jharipani-Kolukhet shortcut road. According to officials, the police control room (112) received information at 9:16 am that a vehicle had fallen into a deep gorge on Jharipani Road. As soon as the information was received, teams of Mussoorie Police, SDRF, Fire Brigade and 108 ambulance service immediately reached the spot.
The accident happened after stopping at the shop
According to eyewitnesses, the car had stopped at a roadside shop before the accident. The people in the car had told the shopkeeper that they were coming from Uttarkashi. As soon as everyone sat back in the car after purchasing some items, the vehicle suddenly started rolling downhill at high speed. It is being told that the driver could not control the vehicle, after which the car went off the road, crossed the empty land and fell into a ditch about 500 meters deep.
The dead were identified
Police have identified the deceased as Satyaprakash, 19, Manit, resident of Sonipat, Haryana, 48-year-old Savita (wife of Dharamvir), resident of Nehru Nagar, Ghaziabad, and 46-year-old Sangeeta (wife of Titu), resident of Karol Bagh, Delhi. Due to the extreme depth of the trench, dense vegetation and bushes, the rescue teams faced a lot of difficulties in the rescue operation. After several hours of hard work, the teams took out all the four bodies.
Suspicion of brake failure, investigation ongoing
In the preliminary investigation, it is feared that due to brake failure of the car while descending the slope, the vehicle went out of control and fell into the ditch. However, officials say that the actual cause of the accident will be known only after a detailed investigation and all aspects are being investigated. Seeing the seriousness of the incident, senior officials including Mussoorie’s area magistrate and Dehradun Superintendent of Police (City) reached the spot and supervised the relief and rescue operations. The administration has informed the families of the deceased about the accident and legal formalities are being completed.
