New Delhi, June 16 (IANS). The country is busy preparing for the celebrations of the 12th International Yoga Day on June 21. Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labor & Employment, will lead a ‘Special Fit India Cyclothon – Cycling by the Sea’ on Wednesday morning at the iconic Worli Cycle Track in Mumbai.
Under the nationwide Fit India campaign, the Regional Center of Sports Authority of India (SAI) is organizing this special event of Fit India Cyclothon at Worli Coastal Cycle Track, Mumbai on Wednesday.
In this cycle journey starting at 6:30 am, around 250 cyclists from different walks of life will cycle with Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya amidst the panoramic views of the picturesque coastline of Mumbai. The event is part of the broader ‘Fit India Movement’, which promotes fitness as a lifestyle through community participation, cycling, yoga and other physical activities.
With the Arabian Sea on one side and hundreds of cyclists on the other, the Cyclothon held in Mumbai on Wednesday is set to embody the central message of the Fit India Movement: ‘Healthy citizens, clean cities and a strong sporting culture’, as India moves towards becoming a global sporting power.
This cyclothon comes at an important time, just days before International Yoga Day, reinforcing the message that fitness and well-being are integral to a healthy society. For the last one year, Dr. Mandaviya has been continuously promoting cycling through the ‘Sundays on Cycle’ initiative. It is presented as a simple, yet powerful tool for both personal health and environmental sustainability.
This cycling initiative, launched in December 2024 by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, has impacted the lives of more than 30 lakh people at more than 3 lakh locations in the country. Fit India Sundays on Cycle is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with Cycling Federation of India, Yogasana Bharat, Raahgiri Foundation and My Bharat.
The Cyclothon being held in Mumbai also serves as the beginning of the global celebrations of the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) to be celebrated on June 21, which will be attended by lakhs of people from over 180 countries.
International Yoga Day has become one of the world’s biggest health movements in the last decade, with India playing a leading role. As countries across continents come together to promote holistic health and preventive healthcare, initiatives like Fit India Sunday on Cycle and Yoga Day are further strengthening India’s leadership in promoting a healthy, active and sustainable lifestyle to the global community.
