National Testing Agency (NTA) has shared a post on social media platform X ahead of the re-examination of NEET UG 2026 to be held on June 21. In this post, information about the exam pattern, subject-wise distribution of questions and marking scheme is given, so that the candidates can better understand the structure of the re-examination. According to NTA, there will be total 180 questions in the exam and total 720 marks. There will be 45-45 questions from Physics and Chemistry and 90 questions from Biology. For every correct answer, candidates will get 4 marks, while for every wrong answer, 1 mark will be deducted under negative marking.
NTA has announced that after the exam, students will be able to take their exam booklet home. The move is aimed at bringing more transparency and giving candidates an opportunity to review their answers after the exam. The agency says the aim is to provide a fair and equal opportunity to all candidates; Therefore, the right strategy and strong preparation will be essential for success. Preparations for NEET UG re-exam are almost complete and question papers are being delivered to different places with the help of Air Force.
NTA’s message to students
With just three days left for the exam, NTA has a message for the over 22 lakh candidates who appeared for the exam: They have worked hard and prepared well, and now is the time to build on their efforts. NTA has appealed to the candidates to remain calm, get enough sleep and focus on performing their best. The agency said, “The examination will be held as per the schedule. Please do not be misled by rumors or speculations spreading on social media about postponement of the examination. Rely only on the official information provided by NTA.”

Regarding the cancellation of the exams, the agency said that the difficult decision taken on May 3 was entirely in the interest of the students. “As soon as any issues emerged, we took immediate steps to maintain the fairness of the process for every honest candidate. We have learned from those experiences and have further strengthened the system this time.” NTA further said, “If you are feeling stressed, know that you are not alone. The MANAS mental health helpline (14416) is available, and anyone in need can seek help. Asking for help is a sign of strength.”
Education Minister held an important meeting; Emphasis laid on stress-free examination conduct
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held a high-level meeting to review the preparations for the exam. He stressed the need to maintain the highest standards of transparency, fairness and integrity throughout the entire examination process. Special officers from the Education Ministry will visit all the states to monitor the examination system and report directly to the NTA Command Centre. Further, State Nodal Officers have been directed to ensure a stress-free environment and provide all necessary facilities to the candidates. Emphasis was laid on ensuring proper seating arrangements, drinking water and other basic facilities for the students at the examination centres.

Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi said that the time before the examination is important; Therefore, all instructions should be strictly followed. Meanwhile, NTA Director General Abhishek Singh said preparations are underway with the cooperation of the district administration, police and intelligence agencies to conduct the examination safely and smoothly. Examination security, logistics, coordination mechanism, grievance redressal and compliance with examination guidelines were discussed in detail in the meeting. A total of 222 officials from states, union territories, universities and higher education institutions from across the country participated in the meeting, in which all states and institutions pledged to extend their full cooperation for the peaceful, transparent and smooth conduct of the examination.
