Mumbai, June 24 (IANS). Amazon Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Andy Jassy said on Wednesday that India has emerged as an important market for the expansion of the company’s quick commerce business. He said that the company’s ‘Amazon Now’ service has become the fastest growing e-commerce business unit of Amazon in India.
Sharing his experience after visiting the ‘Amazon Now’ micro-fulfillment center located in one of the busiest areas of Mumbai, JC said that the service is growing at an extraordinary pace, as customers now prefer to receive delivery within minutes of placing an order.
Micro-fulfillment centers are designed to quickly pick and ship everyday essentials like groceries, shampoo, baby products and household items to customers.
Through this system, customers can receive their goods within minutes of placing the order.
“It was a great experience to be in India and visit the ‘Amazon Now’ micro-fulfillment center located in one of the busiest areas of Mumbai,” said JC.
“Products like grocery, shampoo, baby products and other essential items are picked and delivered to customers within minutes of receiving the order,” he said.
According to JC, Prime members who start using the service see a significant increase in their purchasing frequency.
He said that after starting to use the service, Prime members start shopping almost three times more than before.
He also said that the number of orders has been doubling every quarter since the launch of this service in India.
“Customers are loving the service. Prime members triple their shopping frequency once they start using it, and we’ve seen the number of orders double every quarter since launch,” said Jassy.
Describing ‘Amazon Now’ as the company’s fastest growing e-commerce business in India, JC said that Amazon is planning to expand it to more than 300 cities.
He said that the company aims to create the largest network of delivery within minutes in India.
Jassy said that the innovations and operational experiences gained while developing the Quick Commerce model in India are now helping Amazon expand similar services in the US and other international markets.
Expressing confidence about the company’s future prospects in India, JC said he is proud of the teams, employees and partners who have contributed to building this business.
He said that the opportunities in the Indian market have just begun and the potential for growth in the future is huge.
