Patna, June 24 (IANS). Bhojpur Civil Surgeon Shivendra Kumar Sinha said that when Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, who was shot in a police encounter, was brought to Shahpur Primary Health Center (PHC), his condition was critical, hence after initial treatment, he was referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on time.
Civil Surgeon Shivendra Kumar Sinha said that he is not aware of what happened after the patient was taken to Patna Hospital.
Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, a resident of Belauti village in Bhojpur district, died during a police operation on June 17.
Speaking to news agency IANS, Dr Sinha said, “The patient was referred to our hospital from the Community Health Center (CHC) in Shahpur, where he initially received treatment. He was referred to us as the case was serious.”
Stating that Shahpur PHC was already informed that the patient was being referred from the Community Health Centre, he said, “The patient was brought to our hospital around 10 am in the morning. As soon as we got the information, our entire medical team was on standby, because we knew that a serious case was being referred to us. We were fully prepared. The team included orthopedic specialists, surgeons and anaesthetists.”
“The team took him to the operation theater and tried to treat him. In a way, the patient’s condition was deteriorating here. The doctors told us that his arteries had burst, so we could not take any risks and after initial treatment, he was referred on time,” the doctor said.
He said, “We had received information that the patients had reached PMCH safely. We do not have information about what happened there after that.”
He said that patients in critical condition from Bhojpur are usually referred to PMCH in Patna.
Regarding the post-mortem process of Bharat Tiwari, he said, “The post-mortem was not done in our hospital and he died in Patna, so the post-mortem must have been done there.”
Actually, according to the police, Bharat Tiwari allegedly fired 10 to 12 rounds at the police team, in response to which the police opened fire in self-defense. However, the family and many local people allege that Tiwari had surrendered and was then shot, making the case appear to be a fake encounter.
