New Delhi, 23 September (IANS). Mother is being worshiped in the festival of Navratri across the country. Meanwhile, the sale of adulterated foods is also being played with people’s health. Now, a similar case came to light from Jahangirpuri area of Delhi on Tuesday morning, when a large number of people complained of sudden vomiting and restlessness after eating kuttu flour. Police and health departments were alerted as soon as the information was received.
Delhi Police said that on Tuesday morning, 150-200 people from Jahangirpuri and surrounding areas complained of vomiting after eating kuttu flour. The condition of all patients in BJRM Hospital is stable. Police further stated that local shopkeepers and residents are being alerted through public announcements. The Food Department has been informed for necessary action in this case.
CMO of BJRM Hospital, Dr. Special Yadav said that about 150 to 200 people had reached the emergency wards from Jahangirpuri, Mahendra Park, Samaypur, Bhalswa Dairy, Lal Bagh and Swaroop Nagar areas. The condition of all patients is stable. No one needed to recruit. No serious matter has been revealed yet.
Taking immediate action in this case, the police started making local shopkeepers, hand-carts and common people aware through beat staff and public address system. At the same time, the matter has been sent to the Food Department so that the quality and supply of the flour can be checked.
Regarding the matter, Dr. Meera Pathak told IANS that the increase in demand during festivals reduces supply, which causes adulteration, contaminated and poor products to be sold. Adulteration means that if the availability of kuttu flour is low, then millet flour or maida is added to it. Second, new dough is sold in fresh packaging by mixing new dough. Third, old or bad flour, which contains dust or bacterial corruption, is sold.
He said that many times the dough gets spoiled due to moisture in the warehouse, causing fungal and bacterial infection in it. Due to all this, people have health problems. Another reason can also be allergies. If there is a bacterial or fungal infection, there may be problems like vomiting, fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea. At the same time, allergies can cause itching or skin rashes.
Dr. Pathak suggested that to avoid this, always buy seal pack flour, do not take open flour, choose branded flour and check its expiry date. Also, buy small amounts of flour and avoid taking large containers. It is important to take care of all these things.
