Kolkata, June 28 (IANS). The Trinamool Congress, comprising former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, has filed four separate complaints in four police stations in and around Kolkata in the last 24 hours against the rebel group led by expelled party MLA Ritabrata Banerjee.
Of the four police stations where the complaints have been lodged, two fall under the jurisdiction of Kolkata Police and the remaining two fall under the jurisdiction of Bidhannagar City Police.
The two police stations under the jurisdiction of Kolkata Police where the complaints have been lodged are Kalighat Police Station and Pragati Maidan Police Station.
On the other hand, the two police stations under the jurisdiction of Bidhannagar City Police where the complaints have been lodged are New Town Police Station and Bidhannagar Cyber Police Station. The last complaint was lodged at Bidhannagar cyber police station.
An insider in the minority faction of the party said that the essence of the four complaints lodged in the four police stations is the same – using the party logo without permission in major programs organized by the rebel group and illegally declaring the name of senior party MLA Arup Roy as the chairperson of Trinamool Congress in place of Mamata Banerjee.
The leader of the old faction said that an organizational conference of Trinamool Congress was held in 2022, in which the delegates present voted in favor of keeping Mamata Banerjee as the party chairperson for life.
He told that only those people who had been members of the party for at least five years had the right to vote as delegates in that conference. According to calculations, that conference should be held every five years. That is, the next organizational conference is to be held in 2027. If any special situation arises in the meanwhile, then only ‘Chairperson’ Mamata Banerjee can call a special session. But instead of following that party rule, the rebel group illegally declared the name of Arup Roy as its chairperson in the absence of Mamata Banerjee. Since then, he has been using the party’s logo and name as per his wish. Therefore, we have filed these four complaints in four different police stations.
However, the rebel group has its own argument. Since we have already approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding the issue of rights over the party’s people and funds, now the decision on this matter will be taken at the Commission level only.
