Senior Samajwadi Party leader and MLA Kamal Akhtar from Kanth Assembly seat of Moradabad has resigned from the post of ‘Chief Whip’ in the Assembly. Akhtar said he had resigned on the instructions of the party’s national president. He said, “They are our leaders; it is our duty to follow their orders.” With this resignation new political speculations have started in the Samajwadi Party. Recently, there was talk of differences between him and MP Ruchi Veera. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had also held a meeting with both of them in Lucknow to resolve the dispute, and it was believed that the matter had been resolved. However, today the resignation of MLA Kamal Akhtar has shocked everyone.
In fact, factionalism was going on in the Moradabad unit of Samajwadi Party for a long time. Eventually, the matter came to the notice of party national president Akhilesh Yadav, after which he held a meeting with both the parties in Lucknow. During the meeting, Moradabad MP Ruchi Veera and Kanth MLA Kamal Akhtar were face to face and openly expressed their grievances in the presence of Akhilesh Yadav. Akhilesh Yadav himself had to intervene to calm the situation.
** Situation heated up again due to resignation **
Rajya Sabha member Javed Ali, former city MLA Yusuf Ansari, District President Jaiveer Singh Yadav and MP representative Khushnood Ali were also present in the meeting. MP Ruchi Veera had alleged that he was being sidelined. After the meeting the matter was believed to be resolved; However, this resignation has once again heated up the situation.
It is noteworthy that Samajwadi Party had appointed Kamal Akhtar as Chief Whip on July 28, 2024 after the resignation of rebel MLA Manoj Pandey. Earlier, Manoj Kumar Pandey held this post, but resigned after going against the party during the 2024 Rajya Sabha elections; He also voted in favor of the BJP candidate. This post became vacant after Manoj Pandey changed party and Kamal Akhtar was appointed to it. Now, after the resignation of Kamal Akhtar, this post has once again become vacant.
