New Delhi, 23 September (IANS). India’s total textile exports are expected to double by 2030. It will play an important role in India-UK Compressive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). This information was given by the government on Tuesday.
A high-level delegation led by Secretary Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary in the Ministry of Textiles, is in London. During this time it will show the ability of the country’s textile value chain to deepen the partnership between India-UK.
The delegation includes all major export promotion councils (EPCs) and representatives of leading exporters.
According to the Ministry of Textiles, several programs were organized on the first day of the visit, including a textile road show and regional meetings with buyers and sourcing houses from handicrafts, handloom and carpet areas.
India is the fourth largest textile exporter in Britain. Textile exports to Britain in 2024–25 stood at $ 2.16 billion, which is 6.6 percent of Britain’s imports.
During the journey, the Textiles Secretary referred to India’s ability to serve the UK market with a unique combination of heritage craftsmanship, modern scale, stability and detection initiatives.
He emphasized India’s focus on the creation of strong and transparent supply chains in accordance with global consumer expectations.
India High Commissioner Vikram K.K. Dorawami outlined the historical relations between India and Britain and emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral textile relations.
He said that the recently signed India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) provides a profitable opportunity for both countries, which will make it possible to increase trade, investment and cooperation in the field of textiles.
The regional meetings of the Indian delegation with Britain buyers in the fields of handicrafts, handlooms and carpets focused on Indian products, stability and detection measures and direct buyer-producing relations.
British buyers welcomed the initiative and reiterated their commitment to increase supply from India.
According to the ministry, this journey is expected to increase market access, promote joint investment and strengthen the brand status of Indian textiles in Britain.
