Kolkata, July 4 (IANS). Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Aparupa Poddar surrendered in court on Saturday and got interim bail in a recent case.
Aparupa, who was a two-time MP from Arambag, will have to appear in the MP-MLA court after this. Chandannagar Police Commissionerate has said that notice can be sent to Aparupa again.
On Tuesday, police had suo motu registered a case against Aparupa Poddar for obstructing work during the arrest of her husband and Trinamool councilor Shakir Ali by National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials in the Ram Navami violence case.
For this, Aparupa had to appear at Serampore Police Station. Meanwhile, the NIA court on Friday granted conditional bail to Shakir Ali.
On Saturday, Aparupa appeared in the Serampore Sub-Division Court along with her husband. The court granted him interim bail. However, the former MP has been ordered to appear before the special court at Mayukh Bhawan on September 30.
According to the police, Aparupa did not go to the police station on the scheduled day. Due to this, non-bailable section was added against him. As a result, Aparupa had to go to court to get bail. After getting bail on Saturday, the former MP did not say anything about this.
Aparupa’s lawyer Joydeep Mukherjee said, “We will appear in the MP-MLA court at Mayukh Bhawan in Salt Lake, Kolkata on September 30.”
Regarding the police case, he said, “The police will do their job. We will do our job. The court has accepted our point. The police can say a lot. Whereas there was no incident of ‘attempt to murder’ because no one was ‘attacked’. The police registered the case suo motu. We will face it legally.”
On the other hand, Chandannagar Police Commissioner Sunil Kumar Yadav said, “We had called them to get information. We may call them again. We have been asked to find out who all were present there that day. If needed, we will call them again. We will send them another notice.”
