New Delhi, July 5 (IANS). Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (MFDA) has issued a public warning against the use of three cosmetic products. Lab tests found them to contain dangerously high amounts of mercury and lead, raising concerns about serious health risks.

The regulator has termed Gori Beauty Cream, Face Fresh Gold (Beauty Cream + Beauty Serum) and Golden Star Beauty Cream as being of substandard quality. Investigation revealed that heavy metals more than the prescribed limit were found in these products.

The MFDA warns that long-term use of these cosmetics can have serious health effects, such as damage to the kidneys, nervous system and skin. Customers have been advised to immediately stop using, purchasing or distributing these products.

The investigation also found that these products did not follow the required labeling rules. According to the regulator, these cosmetics were missing important information like name and address of the manufacturing company, batch number, date of manufacture and expiry date, which raised further concerns about their authenticity and safety.

In response, MFDA has directed retailers, wholesalers, distributors and e-commerce platforms across Maharashtra to immediately stop selling and stocking these identified products. Business owners have also been directed to submit reports to the FDA containing information about the quantity of products recalled from the market and the stock left with them.

The administration has appealed to the customers to buy cosmetic products only from authorized sellers and before purchasing, carefully check that all the necessary information related to the product is present on the packaging.

MFDA has again appealed to the public not to use untested cosmetic products and to report any suspicious or unlabeled beauty products found in the market to the authorities.

Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (MFDA) is the main regulatory body of the state responsible for ensuring the safety, quality and compliance of food, drugs and cosmetics.
