Uttarakhand News: While reviewing the Social Welfare Department, Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the officials that all the plans of the department should be prepared keeping in mind not only the current needs but also the challenges and needs of the next 25 years. He said that the schemes should be such that they remain effective over time and become an example of ‘best practice’ for other states also.
The Chief Minister directed the officials that the construction work of Babu Jagjivan Ram Boys Hostel, Doiwala (Dehradun), Babu Jagjivan Ram Boys Hostel, Pines (Nainital) and Babu Jagjivan Ram Girls Hostel, Someshwar (Almora) should be completed by the month of October, so that better residential and educational facilities can be available to the Scheduled Caste students soon.
The Chief Minister said that integration of schemes should be done and special attention should be paid to financial management and effective use of resources in the implementation of schemes and construction works. He directed that eligible citizens should automatically come under the ambit of old age pension as soon as they complete 60 years of age, so that they do not have to go through any unnecessary process and can get the benefit of pension on time.
Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami transferred the pension amount due for the month of June-2026 of various pension schemes run under the Social Welfare Department through DBT (One Click) in the Chief Minister’s Residence Auditorium. On this occasion, he transferred the pension amount of about ₹145 crore 42 lakh to a total of 9,80,950 beneficiaries directly into their bank accounts. In this, the Central Government’s share was approximately ₹ 7 crore 2 lakh and the State Government’s share was approximately ₹ 138 crore 40 lakh.
In this amount distributed in the month of June-2026, ₹ 91.69 crore was given to 6,11,245 beneficiaries of old age pension, ₹ 35.38 crore to 2,35,850 beneficiaries of widow pension, ₹ 13.32 crore to 88,787 beneficiaries of disabled pension, ₹ 3.26 crore to 27,207 beneficiaries of farmer pension, ₹ 3.26 crore to 27,207 beneficiaries of abandoned pension. Assistance of ₹99.10 lakh was provided to 8,258 beneficiaries, ₹51.08 lakh was provided to 7,297 beneficiaries of maintenance grant, ₹26.15 lakh was provided to 2,179 beneficiaries of Teelu Rauteli Pension and ₹1.52 lakh was provided to 127 beneficiaries of Bauna Pension.
Babu Jagjivan Ram Hostel Scheme was also reviewed in the meeting. This scheme is being run to provide hostel facilities to Scheduled Caste students for secondary, higher and university level education. Under the scheme, the Central Government provides financial assistance up to ₹ 3.25 lakh per student and if necessary, the State Government ensures the construction of modern and quality hostels by giving additional top-up amount.
Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “The aim of our government is not only to make schemes, but also to develop such a permanent and effective system which will also meet the needs of the coming generations. Social security, education and respect are the rights of every eligible citizen. Such a good governance model will be developed in Uttarakhand, which other states of the country will also be inspired to adopt.” Cabinet Minister Shri Khajan Das, Social Welfare Secretary and other senior officials of the Social Welfare Department were present in the meeting.
