Jamnagar, July 7 (IANS). Amidst heavy rains in Gujarat’s Jamnagar district, 108 ambulance service personnel displayed courage, promptness and human sensitivity by delivering the safe delivery of a pregnant woman, saving the lives of both the mother and the newborn. Due to waterlogging and mud in the Wadi area of Kotra Bavisi village of Jamjodhpur tehsil, the ambulance could not reach the house, but the medical team got the delivery done safely on the spot.
According to the information, 108 ambulance service was informed when the pregnant woman started labor pain. As soon as the information was received, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Hasmukh Sagathia and ambulance pilot Kamlesh Kantaria left for the spot. Due to continuous rain, the road leading to the village was filled with mud and it was not possible for the ambulance to reach through the fields.
Seeing the serious condition of the woman, both the employees reached her house on foot. During the investigation they realized that it was not possible to take the woman to the hospital and delaying the delivery could pose a threat to both the mother and the baby. In such a situation, 108 ambulance team provided safe delivery at home with necessary medical precautions.
After the successful delivery, with the help of local villagers, the mother and the newborn were carried on a cot to the ambulance on foot through a muddy path for about 500 meters. After this, both of them were referred to Jamjodhpur Sub-District Hospital for better treatment and monitoring, where their condition was declared normal.
Manveer Dagar, Jamnagar Program Manager of 108 Ambulance Service, told IANS, “The 108 ambulance service of Gujarat government is completely free and is being operated across the state to provide timely medical facilities to the patients in emergency situations.”
He said, “The pregnant woman was reported to be in labour. When our team reached the spot, due to heavy rains the road was completely filled with mud and the ambulance could not reach the house. Both our staff reached the woman’s house on foot. There it became clear that there was no time to reach the hospital, so they delivered her safely on the spot. Later the mother and the newborn were taken to the hospital.”
Manveer Dagar said, “108 ambulance service is available in every district and village of Gujarat. If a poor family does not have a vehicle to go to the hospital at night or in an emergency, then they can get free help by calling number 108.”
This prompt and humanitarian action of 108 ambulance personnel amidst heavy rain is being appreciated across the region. Local people described it as an excellent example of the commitment and spirit of service of health services in disaster-like situations.
